Music - Notation

In Music, we have learnt all about notation. We know the names of different notes, where they sit on the stave and the length of notes. We have also learnt that an ostinato is a musical pattern that repeats. We used this knowledge to play the glockenspiels.

English

In English, Year 4 have been exploring traditional tales. We used the story of The Pied Piper to create our own version. We wrote some excellent setting and character descriptions focusing on the writing skills of fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases. We have also started to learn how to punctuate direct speech properly so our characters can have a conversation.

History - Mummification

In History, we have been learning all about the Ancient Egyptians and what impact their achievements and beliefs have on the modern world. The afterlife was especially important for Egyptians and they believed they would need their bodies to enter it. They used mummification to preserve their bodies. We explored this process and mummified tomatoes to help us understand each step in detail.

Pets at Home
Some of the Year 4 learners, went on an exciting trip with Mrs Rimmer! In English, they have been learning all about 'How to Care for Animals'. They boarded the train to Pets at Home in Burnley. They picked up some leaflets and some pet treats for Mrs Rimmer's dog. They also watched dogs being groomed. Mrs Rimmer can't wait to read their leaflets about 'How to Care for cats'. 

Autumn 1 Learning 

 

In music we have been exploring musical dimensions. We have been specifically focusing on texture and dynamics in music, and applying this to our song focus Mamma Mia. We have also been recapping our prior learning on pitch, pulse and rhythm. Please enjoy the clips of year 4 performing Mamma Mia and sharing their new vocabulary. 

How could we live without electricity for a day?

 In science we have been using our collaborative and questioning skills when learning about electricity. We have been making complete circuits and understanding what components make a circuit. Alongside exploring the function of a switch and understanding what happens the flow of electricity when the circuit is open and closed. We have also used our science enquiry skills to make predictions, write conclusions and investigate insulators and conductors. Natural Resources 

In geography we have been learning about natural resources, we have compared and gathered information on non-renewable resources like fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas, alongside renewable resources like water, the sun and wind. In addition to this we have investigated how these resources are used and how they have impacted the evolution of settlements over the years.
